4. Carmelo Anthony
A long time ago, Carmelo Anthony was deadlocked in a race for the Rookie of the Year Award with LeBron James. 10 All-Star games, six All-NBA teams and a scoring title later, Anthony has been banished from the league and deemed unplayable.
Melo was thought to be the third member of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s big three back in 2016-17. This quickly took a turn for the worst as his tendency to jack up shots and the awful defense began to make him a detriment on both ends of the floor.
Fast forward to his most recent stint with the Houston Rockets and it was more of the same for Melo. He refused to part ways with his patented mid-range jump shot and failed to sacrifice his star status in favor of a more reserved role.
Maybe an entire year of exile has changed Carmelo. Perhaps he has now realized that he must take a lesser role with a team or face never re-entering the league again. It would certainly help if the Golden State Warriors are the team to give him a chance as they led the league in mid-range points last season.
This would actually be a better fit for both parties than you would think. Carmelo could offer some needed scoring off of the bench. Of course, it would require some serious attitude changes from Melo before this could work, but it’s possible.
