Klay Thompson

It’s almost a given he’ll re-sign, but the Golden State Warriors top free agent target is Klay Thompson. Thompson, who tore his ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, ultimately costing the Warriors the game and series, is expected to sign a long-term max.

The five-year max would set Thompson up for a new contract when he’s 34. Right now, Klay is in the position where a player will typically take a 1-plus-1 contract, giving them the option to leave each year.

However, with a torn ACL, he should want to secure the bag now. Take the big money. Although he’s averaging 20-plus points per game for five straight seasons, there’s no guarantee he comes back quite the same.

Klay’s also averaged over three threes per game for five straight seasons. He’s one of the best shooters to ever grace the hardwood, and it’d be terrific for both parties to lock him in long term. His rehab is expected to be complete just after the new year.
