Durant opts out

The most important aspect of this entire ordeal, Kevin Durant has opted out of his $31.5 Million dollar deal with the Golden State Warriors. This decision confirms that KD will be hitting the free agency market. But, does is it mean he is for sure leaving the team?

In short, no, this doesn’t necessarily mean Durant is leaning towards anything. All this means is KD has decided he wants to restructure his current contract, regardless of what team he is playing on next season.

Durant has more than proven he is worth a max contract. Even with a ruptured Achilles, the two time Finals MVP should be able to secure a big deal this summer. Opting out of his current contract gives him the chance to make that extra cash.

While it would have been reassuring for KD to simply opt into his final season with the Dubs, this isn’t concrete evidence that he is leaving. In fact, he was probably going to opt out no matter what.
