It’s official. The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson have come to an agreement on a five-year, $190 million max contract.

The Golden State Warriors locking up one of their franchise players in Klay Thompson makes this offseason not a colossal failure. Early today, Durant announced his intent to sign with the Nets, turning the NBA world upside down.

Now, all order has been restored.

Many within the basketball community were stressing with all the deals being completed and no news of Thompson’s official deal. However, per New York Times sports reporter Marc Stein, the deal is done as it’s always been.

For Warrior fans, this is a great sign.

Getting Thompson back solidifies their big three for at least one more season. If Draymond Green re-signs after next season, this Big 3, that’s changed the NBA these past five seasons, will be in the Bay Area for quite some time.

Thompson is coming off his fifth-straight season of averaging over 20 points and 3 3s per game. He’s been huge, but sadly, as many of you know, he tore his ACL in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.

On a positive note, Thompson’s fame has come from his shooting, not necessarily his athleticism. Tearing an ACL isn’t necessarily a career-changing injury like Durant’s ruptured Achilles is either. Obviously, both are tremendous losses, but one is one for all next year, one will return in eight months.

Thompson is likely going to be set to return after the All-Star break. In a heated Western Conference that only got better this offseason, it may be tough for Golden State to retain their throne.

Does that matter though? Home court has never been an issue. Remember Game 7 of the 2018 Western Conference Finals? If the Dubs make the playoffs, they’ll be favorites and still lethal as ever.

That said, retaining Thompson for the long term is great, and this deal being complete should allow ever Warrior fan to sleep tonight.
