The Golden State Warriors could and should sign-and-trade superstar forward Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets for point guard D’Angelo Russell.

It’s been a crazy 24 hours in the NBA stratosphere. Star players have switched teams, numerous surprising deals were made, potentially the biggest of those was former Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant announcing his intent to sign with the Brooklyn Nets.

Durant will be followed to Brooklyn by superstar point guard Kyrie Irving and center DeAndre Jordan. Durant and Irving are reportedly going to be taking less so that Jordan is giving an eight-figure annual contract.

However, as is with all these players, the deals cannot be officially inked till July 6. While much likely won’t change, what could change is how much Durant’s deal is and where D’Angelo Russell heads.

Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes reported that a sign-and-trade featuring Durant to Brooklyn could be on the horizon. While much has happened since that announcement, the potential and perks of doing this for both sides is still obvious.

For the Nets, they get Durant for another year. Durant, if he chose to sign with Golden State, could accept another year on his contract.

For Golden State, you could potentially get D’Angelo Russell. Without Russell in the deal, a sign-and-trade could give Golden State a $30 million Traded Player Exception. It’s obviously not a done deal and could be light years from happening, but it would, at the very least, make sense.

However, if you thought it wasn’t at least a possibility, think again. The Athletic’s Shams Charania dropped a late-night bomb, saying the Warriors have a strong interest in trading for Russell.

That being said, let’s dive into three potential sign-and-trades that Golden State could look into.
