In an attempt to clear cap space, the Golden State Warriors have traded long-time forward Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Golden State Warriors waited till about six hours after the free agency period started to really get into the action. In the last half an hour, they’ve both traded for superstar D’Angelo Russell and traded away forward Andre Iguodala.

This was recently confirmed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Well, it started with Kevin Durant leaving, and now the Dubs have traded Iguodala. If the death lineup wasn’t dead enough, it is now. After releasing a book just days ago, Iguodala’s six-year stint in Golden State has come to an end.

It’s mainly for financial considerations. The Dubs had to give away Iguodala. His contract has been hampering them for years. Following the 2016-2017 season, the Dubs locked up Iggy for three years, paying him over $48 million.

It was a bad contract from the beginning and now the Warriors will have to pay for it. That said, Iggy was coming off one of his worst professional seasons and going to hit 36-years-old this upcoming season.

The 15-year veteran averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. However, for him, his defense was what kept him around. He made timely plays and was the main lockdown defender for Golden State over the last few seasons.

Now, they’ll be playing a completely different style of ball. With Russell’s signing the Warriors will be creating a different, potentially more lethal death lineup with Curry, Thompson, Russell, Green and hopefully Looney lining the court.

That lineup will be feared throughout the league, and it just a matter of months before we see it in action. It’s just a shame that Iggy was caught in the crosshairs because, coming March and April, they’ll wish that they had Iggy on their side.
