In shocking fashion, Kevin Durant has decided to leave the Golden State Warriors and sign with the Brooklyn Nets.

Well, it finally happened. After an entire season of speculation, Kevin Durant has made the decision to pack up and head to the Brooklyn Nets. Durant spent his last three seasons with the Golden State Warriors but is prepared to begin a new chapter in his career. Durant is expected to sign a 4-year $164 Million dollar deal with the Nets.

The Nets have been working hard to build a foundation worthy of signing Durant. Acquiring lots of young talent with players such as Jarrett Allen, Caris LeVert and Spencer Dinwiddie, the Nets pushed themselves into the NBA Playoffs this season. This is an accomplishment that likely set them apart from their weaker (yet older) brother, the Knicks.

Alongside Durant will be Kyrie Irving, who is set to sign a deal with the Nets as well. Despite having a dishonorable season with the Boston Celtics, Irving remains one of the best players in the league and a player capable of shifting a team towards championship contention.

To finish it off, the athletic big man, DeAndre Jordan, is set to join the Nets as well. This would be an incredible haul for an entire summer and yet we haven’t even officially begun the free agency season.

Now, the Warriors sit in dismay as their two-time Finals MVP and leader for the last three seasons has left them. With Klay Thompson returning to the team, but not available to play for most of the year, the Dubs have an ugly future ahead of them.

Stephen Curry and Draymond Green will do their best to keep the ship afloat, but in an ever-growing Western Conference, this season is sure to get dicey. Durant has abandoned this team and the Dubs will feel his absence.

As for Durant, he will still miss most of the season (if not all of it) with his ruptured Achilles. As a result, the Nets won’t be competing for a championship just yet. Still, this move puts the Nets in position to contend for a title within the next four seasons, while the Warriors might be facing the end of an era.
