Quinn Cook — Update: The Warriors have extended a QO
The Golden State Warriors have a few homegrown players that have enough of an impact on a championship-contending team to find a home elsewhere. Quinn Cook is one of them, and the Warriors should do their best to retain the former Blue Devil.
The past two seasons have been Cook’s best professionally. He made an impact in both the regular season and postseason, even helping the Warriors finish off the Rockets in the Western Conference Semifinals.
From nearing a double-figure average, Cook dropped that to just 6.9 per game this past season. However, he still averaged over 17 per 36 minutes, so he’s producing well in the minutes he’s given. For the minimum, he’s great value.
When he starts asking for two years, $10 million, a reasonable contract for a player like him, it gets cloudy. He’s a great sharpshooter, but it’s a difficult sell to pay him if you’re Golden State. Without much cap, the Dubs can let Cook go, but it’d be far from ideal.
