Klay Thompson — Update: Warriors sign Klay Thompson to five-year max

Hands down the Golden State Warriors top free agent option is Klay Thompson. For starters, he’s a homegrown superstar that’s loved by both his team and city. He’s also well respected around the league.

Thompson just got off his fifth straight season of averaging over 20 points and three triples per game. A five-time All-Star, Thompson has, like Steph Curry, shot over 40% from deep every season of his career, one reason his services are so crucial to this team.

That being said, some may hesitate to offer Thompson the max because of his torn ACL, which he sustained in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals. He’s projected to return following the 2020 All-Star break.

However, no one really expects the Warriors to not offer Thompson that max. It seems mutual that both Thompson and the Warriors want this connection to work out, but the Dubs must and should give him the 5-year, $190 million max contract he deserves.
