Harrison Barnes — Update: Barnes expected to re-sign with Kings

After declining his player option worth over $20 million, Harrison Barnes is heading into free agency as an unrestricted free agent. Many think if it’s about the money Barnes was crazy to decline his option since he won’t find a better offer.

Barnes hasn’t been the same since his days in Golden State, proving how the trio of Curry, Thompson and Green make role players seem better than they truly are. Originally leaving the Bay Area of Dallas, Barnes was shipped to Sacramento for Justin Jackson and Zach Randolph.

During his one year in Sacramento, Barnes averaged 14.3 points per game on 45.5% shooting. He also notched 1.9 threes and shot 40.8% from deep. Those are both solid, solid numbers, but they aren’t good enough for $20 million.

It’d be fantastic to see a more mature Barnes return to the Bay, but unless he’s down to sign for the taxpayer mid-level exception, don’t bank on his return. For the record, that exception is around $5.7 million, the only contract GS can offer if they re-sign both KD and Klay.
