Golden State Warriors: 3 ways Kevin Durant’s signing impacts the Dubs
The Kevin Durant Era has come to a close as he is set to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Here are three impacts his departure has on the Golden State Warriors.
After a season’s worth of rumors and speculation, Kevin Durant will officially leave the Golden State Warriors and sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Durant, who was offered a five-year $221 million dollar max contract from the Golden State Warriors, instead will sign with the Nets for a four-year, $164 million max contract.
Joining Durant in Brooklyn will be Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan, according to multiple reports.
Though some may call his departure a “shocker”, the reality is that most, including the Warriors themselves, knew this would be a possibility as they entered the offseason.
If Durant chose to depart for New York, it wouldn’t be because of financial reasons given Golden State’s ability to offer the most valuable contract. Ultimately, Durant will head to Brooklyn for a new chapter in his career, and the hope is for a speedy recovery from his Achilles injury.
For Golden State, the loss of Durant inevitably stings their long-term hopes in competing for championships. Still facing the extent of Klay Thompson‘s injury next season and needing to improve the roster depth around Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, here are three impacts of Durant’s departure on the Golden State Warriors.
