Golden State Warriors: 4 Things to hope for with Kevin Durant gone
By Tony Pesta
2. Stephen Curry MVP season
Now that we have covered the absence of Klay Thompson, it’s time to focus on who will have to carry the most weight next season. Stephen Curry is now the sole leader of this team and it will require an all-time great performance for him to keep the dynasty alive.
Curry is no stranger to historic seasons. His 2015-16 season is perhaps the best regular season to date, with an incredible 30.1 points per game on 50/40/90 shooting splits. This helped lead the Dubs to an NBA record 73 wins as Curry won his second MVP and became the first unanimous winner of the award.
While it seems impossible to replicate this, Curry will have to do his best. The Dubs are going to be in desperate need of offense and no one other than Curry has the talent to accomplish this. It will truly take an MVP season from Steph to lead the Dubs back to the top.
Obviously, this comes with a cost. We will see Curry face tougher defense than ever before. Without any reliable options to take the pressure off of Curry, it will be easy for opponents to target him. Curry will have to be at his best to be effective.
