The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent, Willie Cauley-Stein. Does this mean DeMarcus Cousins is gone?

According to reports, the Golden State Warriors have agreed to a deal with Willie Cauley-Stein. The athletic big man will likely play a big role for the Dubs this season. Does this acquisition rule out the chance of bringing back DeMarcus Cousins?

The initial signing of Cousins was a risk, but a calculated one. Everyone knew that Cousins may never return to full strength after his injury, but there was no reason not to sign him to such a cheap deal. The Warriors took the risk, sadly, it didn’t work out for either side.

Cousins quickly showed a massive decline in productiveness. He was slow and hobbled on both ends of the floor, constantly putting himself into foul trouble. Because of this, Cousins is receiving very little interest from any team in free agency.

The Warriors could have considered bringing him back, but if they have already locked in on replacing him, should they even bother running it back with Cousins? Cauley-Stein will be a more effective center in every way, so what’s the point in signing Cousins?

Last season, WCS averaged 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds a game for the Sacramento Kings. He displayed great durability, playing in 81 games and logging over 2,000 minutes. His athleticism and finishing ability will be a welcomed sight for the Warriors. I can already see the lobs that Draymond Green and Stephen Curry will be throwing to Cauley-Stein off the weak side.

Next. DLo is a star, but not one the Dubs need. dark

Of course, Cousins could still return to the Dubs on a very small contract. However, if last season was any indication of the impact Cousins will have on a team, the Warriors would probably be better off letting him walk to whatever franchise is willing to pay him.
