Kawhi Leonard has yet to make a free agency decision, but he holds the power to destroy the Golden State Warriors once and for all.

Since LeBron James initiated the NBA’s arms race in 2010, the rest of the league has scrambled to accumulate star talent. The Golden State Warriors marked the peak of this era by stacking Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant onto the same team. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers have a chance to take this trend to a new level by signing Kawhi Leonard.

The Lakers have somehow managed to sign LeBron James and trade for Anthony Davis in one year. Despite seemingly doing everything wrong, the Lakers are reportedly in a position to sign Leonard as well, which would create the strongest trio in league history.

What is there to be said about James at this point? A historic career has placed him in GOAT conversations. After a strong individual performance last season, it’s clear he still has gas left in the tank for a deep playoff run. Combine this with the incredible two-way play of Leonard and Davis, and it would take a miracle to stop the Lakers from winning the title next season.

The Warriors shook the world when they signed two of the top three best players in the world (Durant/Curry). Los Angeles has a chance to take this further by arguably having all three of the top three players next season (Durant’s injury keeps him off this list).

Meanwhile, the Warriors face losing their two-time Finals MVP in Durant and their 2015 Finals MVP, Andre Iguodala. The Dubs will need huge performances from their entire roster to compete again this season and without Thompson, for much of the year, it will be nearly impossible to capture a title.

Without their immense star power, the Dubs simply don’t have enough to topple a Lakers team as potentially talented as this one. Kawhi heading to LAL would mark the end of the road for many franchises, including the Dubs.
