After extending Draymond Green’s contract, the Golden State Warriors have officially locked down their core for at least three more seasons.

Even with the arrival and abrupt departure of Kevin Durant, the Golden State Warriors have maintained the same winning core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. This trio has been together since the start of their career’s and it looks like this won’t be changing anytime soon.

Yesterday, the Warriors signed Draymond to a 4-year $140 million dollar extension. This locks up Green as a member of the Dubs until 2024. Meanwhile, the Dubs already extended Thompson earlier this summer and have had Curry signed for a few years now.

Curry’s contract won’t be up until the end of the 2021-22 season. This means that barring anything extreme, the Warriors will have a winning culture for at least three more seasons. In reality, the odds of Curry actually leaving the franchise seem low. But, in today’s league, you never really know.

Regardless, the Dubs will have their all-star trio together for the next three years. There is also potential that they could choose to keep D’Angelo Russell through the rest of his contract and continue moving the franchise forward with four all-star players.

End of each star’s contract:

  • Stephen Curry – 2022
  • D’Angelo Russell – 2023
  • Klay Thompson – 2024
  • Draymond Green – 2024

Russell won’t have his contract end until after the 2022-23 season. As of now, there is no telling what Russell could do as a free agent or if he will even get a chance to play that long with the team. It’s possible that D-Lo could be traded before this season is even over.

If the Dubs choose to keep all of these players together, it probably means something is going right. Despite being counted out by many, the Warriors have enough talent to go toe-to-toe with anyone in the NBA.

Any success that you see from the Dubs this season will not be short-lived. This team is ready to go for at least three more years, so buckle up.
