The Golden State Warriors waived Shaun Livingston, likely ending his career. However, he may not be done with the Warriors quite yet.

There weren’t many players more involved than Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala, who veterans the Golden State Warriors had to break ties with this offseason. The team traded Iguodala and waived Livingston.

However, at least for Iggy, his career in the NBA will continue. We don’t quite know what will happen with Livingston, but given his injury history and success with basketball, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him retire instead of preparing for a 15th season.

If he opts to end his playing career, he’d be welcome back into the Warriors organization with open arms. Per NBC Sports Josh Schrock, head coach Steve Kerr wants Livingston involved in the organization in some way for years to come.

"“He’s somebody I’m hoping can be involved with our organization for many years to come,” Kerr said. “That would be the plan if we can pull it off, but he’s got to get away right now and get some freedom, enjoy his family before he figures out what’s next.”"

Kerr praised Livingston even more, giving fans an insight into what kind of person Livingston is.

"“He’s just a great human being. He also happens to be a hell of a basketball player and a good teammate. I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed my five years with Shaun.”"

Livingston’s tenure with Golden State hasn’t been the lengthiest, but it was highly successful. While never a main scoring option, Livingston played a crucial role behind Curry for the last five season, helping claim three championships for Dub Nation.

A career that was almost immediately ended by a knee injury back in the early 00’s, Livingston battled to get back to full strength and deserves every ounce of glory he’s found. That said, Livingston may have a spot on the Warriors coaching staff if he wants one.

As Kerr noted, it may not happen this upcoming season but expect to hear about Livingston in the future, especially if he has an interest in coaching. There’s no better place for Livingston than with the Warriors, and hopefully, this pipe dream turns into a reality.
