The Golden State Warriors aren’t favored to be in the 2020 Western Conference Finals, but Klay Thompson’s dad isn’t buying it.

Going on SiriusXM Radio, Mychal Thompson gave his prediction for the 2020 Western Conference Finals. Yup, you thought right. He predicted the Golden State Warriors to take on the Los Angeles Lakers.

He does have many stipulations, one of which was health as the two teams enter the new seasons. However, even at full strength, this take is still on the hot side as the other team in LA, the Clippers, added both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George this offseason.

That said, here’s exactly how Thompson phrased his prediction.

Both the Warriors and Lakers, along with numerous other Western Conference rivals, underwent extreme changes this offseason.

The Warriors added superstar, 23-year-old point guard D’Angelo Russell along with multiple veterans like Willie Cauley-Stein and Alec Burks. They also extended Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, locking them up the next four years.

However, losing Kevin Durant will create a void that all these players cannot combine to fill. That said, the parity in the league is back because, as Thompson noted, the Warriors were light years better than any team last season.

Unlike the Warriors, the Lakers were able to drastically improve. They added superstar forward Anthony Davis to go along with LeBron James. To secure Davis, they dealt away Josh Hart, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and a few other notable assets.

Overall, predicting these two to make the Conference Finals is far from crazy.

But, however, it does seem a bit bias.

Mychal Thompson, who raised Klay near LA, played for the Lakers. So, he played for the Lakers and his son plays for the Warriors. Seems a bit suspicious if you ask me. But, we aren’t complaining if Thompson’s prediction turns into a reality.
