Elena Delle Donne is a better all-time free throw shooter than Stephen Curry
This is crazy to believe, but WNBA superstar Elena Delle Donne is a better career free-throw shooter than Golden State Warriors’ star Stephen Curry.
Stephen Curry is the best free-throw shooter in league history. He shoots over 90% from the stripe and is one of just three NBA players to ever hit that mark. Well, there’s a player in the WNBA that’s better than every Curry.
It’s not even marginally better. Elena Delle Donne, who has played in the WNBA for seven seasons, shoots over 93% from the line. Yes, it’s insane to think, but the star point guard shoots 3% better than the best male free-throw shooter to ever grace the hardwood.
Golden State of Mind and LA Sparks writer Brady Klopfer was one of the first to detail this.
Delle Donne, who is the only female player to notch over 90%, played this past season for the Washington Mystics. She’s played 31 games and has taken free throws in 27.
Would you believe me if I told you she made all her attempts in 24 of them? She shot more than two in 19 of them as well. Those numbers are just incredible and to keep them up for the entirety of a career is even more impressive. She shot over 97% from the line this season.
Let’s not downplay how well Stephen Curry has performed from the line. Both players almost automatic when it comes to shooting free throws. And, while Delle Donne may be better from the line, she’s not even close to as effective from deep as Curry.
The best three-point shooter of all time, Curry has averaged over 40% from deep in all ten of his professional seasons. That’s just out-of-this-world impressive and has many considering him the best shooter of all time.
The two-time MVP is a legend in the NBA much like Delle Donne is in the WNBA.
