The Golden State Warriors are going to miss Andre Iguodala this season.

In a last-second move to keep their franchise in championship contention, the Golden State Warriors traded Andre Iguodala to the Memphis Grizzlies. This opened up just enough cap space for the Dubs to complete a sign-and-trade that brought in the 23-year old All-Star, D’Angelo Russell.

This move was necessary. With Kevin Durant on his way out, the Warriors needed to add some talent or face the end of an era. Seeing as how Iggy is far from his prime, it only made sense that trading him to ensure a better future for the Warriors was the best option.

Contributing to multiple championships, Iguodala will forever be remembered for his defense in the 2015 NBA Finals. Without his Finals MVP performance, the Dubs may have never won their first title.

Of course, Iggy has already played through his best seasons. There is speculation that the 2019-20 NBA season will be his final run. Although he is on the border of retirement, his production will be missed by the Dubs.

For the last few seasons, Iggy has served as a role player. A great one at that. He knew what his role was and fully embraced it. Rarely playing large minutes outside of key NBA Playoff series, Iguodala embraced his job with the Warriors.

Finding a player that is willing to do that is tough. Acquiring one with the same level of talent and experience as Iggy is nearly impossible. The former Finals MVP is a valuable two-way player even in his older form.

Andre provided a defensive reassurance that the Warriors will miss. Golden State trusted Iggy to be on the floor during their biggest moments. Moving forward, the Warriors will have to place their faith in the hands of someone else.

Hopefully, the Dubs move on to bigger and better things. Regardless, the franchise is going to miss their old reliable, Andre Iguodala.
