The Golden State Warriors will continue to thrive with Stephen Curry leading the show.

The loss of Kevin Durant is a giant one. With Durant on the roster, the Golden State Warriors fell painfully close to completing a three-peat. Now that KD is gone, Stephen Curry will once again grab hold of the reigns to lead this team.

This isn’t a bad thing at all. In fact, the Warriors may be better off long term with Curry running the show. The two-time MVP may have never been the best player in an NBA Finals series, but he has undoubtedly been the Warriors best leader over the years.

Some will argue that Draymond Green is the team’s heart and soul. This observation isn’t wrong, Green is pivotal in keeping the Warriors offense and defense running smoothly. However, it is Curry at the end of the day who is leading the Dubs.

He does it in many different ways. Curry is exceptional at leading by example and rallying his teammates together when need be. This is something that has pushed the Warriors to the great levels of success they have enjoyed recently.

It wasn’t until Curry emerged as an MVP winner in the 2014-15 NBA season that the Warriors rose to the top of the mountain. His elite presence on offense has unlocked the keys for an all-time great dynasty.

In contrast, Durant was never a good leader. Even in his days with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant lacked the leadership skills necessary to get over the hump and win a championship. Many assume this is why KD joined the Warriors in the first place.

Durant is of course an excellent player. He may be the best player in the entire league. His isolation scoring ability makes him one of the greatest of all-time. Still, he has never proven to be a significant leader.

KD is now on his way to the Brooklyn Nets. Here, he will have a chance to take a leadership role or play second-fiddle to Kyrie Irving. Once he returns from injury, KD will show us a lot about his character with the Nets.

As for Curry, he will continue to lead the championship culture in Golden State. Durant may be the better overall player, but Curry has always been the better leader.
