The Golden State Warriors have had multiple Hall of Fame locks on their last few teams, but is Draymond Green one of them?

Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry have already been dubbed two of the best to ever play the game. They’ll be in the Hall of Fame. While even Klay Thompson‘s resume is building nicely, what about Golden State Warriors’ forward Draymond Green?

Is he a lock?

This is an interesting discussion. After all, he’s a three-time champion, former Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Star. There are players with far worse resumes that’ve been inducted. And, the best part is that he’s still adding to his stellar resume.

There are a decent amount of questions surrounding the thought though. In a prime season, Green turned into a non-threat from three-point land, and he’s also taken a huge step back in the scoring department, averaging just over seven points per game this past season.

It’s difficult to quantify how important stats are when gauging the likelihood a player gets in. Many compare his game to Dennis Rodman‘s. But, his numbers on the boards certainly aren’t at the level of Rodman’s yet his impact is still there for the Warriors, who have been to five-straight titles.

Green’s numbers tell his entire story. He’s a great defender, but his percentages can hurt the team as times.

Although Rodman averaged ten-plus points per game just one season, he averaged over 18 rebounds per game two times and led the league in rebounds seven times. He was a dominant defensive threat. Rodman was voted in on his first ballot. Some consider him the best defender of all time.

He got in the Hall of Fame with the same style of play but with insane numbers. There was no question that Rodman was going to get in. Will Green get in with numbers not near as inflated though?

Green has led the league in steals once at 2.0 and is a much versatile passer, averaging 7-plus assists per game for three straight seasons. That said, to go along with his accolades, there’s no question that Green gets at least his name on the ballot.

Is he a first-ballot Hall of Famer?

Well, that may depend on the class he enters with, but as long as Green keeps up his play, he’ll certainly have a say. Basketball-Reference’s Hall of Famer tracker currently gives him a 27% chance, but with time, that should increase drastically.

We’re still a decade away from even potentially hearing his name thought of on the ballot, but the conversation of his Hall of Fame possibility is still an intriguing at the very least.
