The Golden State Warriors only have to focus on reaching the playoffs this season.

Kevin Durant‘s injury in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals shook the league. An injury to Klay Thompson and Durant’s final decision to leave the team acted as another earthquake that nearly ended the Golden State Warriors dynasty.

Without two of their best players, the Warriors were on the bring of extinction. The front office managed to recover quickly by pulling together a deal to acquire D’Angelo Russell from the Brooklyn Nets. This last second move gave the Dubs exactly what they needed, time.

At their core, the Warriors have enough to compete with anyone. Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Thompson are the three that led Golden State to a historic 73-9 season back in 2016. This trio can win a championship by themselves.

However, without Thompson in the lineup, this Warriors team is weak. At least, before the addition of D-Lo. By bringing in a 22-year old All-Star, the Dubs have given themselves a cushion of talent to carry the team during a tough stretch as they wait for Thompson to recover.

It will be a bumpy season as the team attempts to acclimate a number of new additions. Still, the only thing the Warriors should focus on is simply reaching the postseason. If they can do this, they will have a shot at the title.

Curry is already primed for an MVP season. He averaged 27.3 points per game last season and will increase his production with Durant now out of the lineup. Combine this with the playmaking ability of Russell and Green’s defense to give the Dubs an interesting dynamic.

A healthy Klay will make this Warriors team deadly. A total of four All-Star caliber players makes the Dubs one of the most loaded teams in the NBA. Of course, they can only put their talents to the test if they manage to reach the playoffs in Thompson’s absence.

Next. Curry versus Kobe. dark

The Warriors need to start the season off strong. A slow stretch in the first half of the season could be too much to overcome later on. Finding a way into the postseason gives the Dubs a fighting chance which is all they might need to become champions once again.
