Golden State Warriors: Expectations for Each Young Bench Player
Omari Spellman: Stretch Five
The young player to watch come this season for the Warriors according to Steve Kerr: Omari Spellman. Spellman was acquired, largely for financial reasons, in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks that saw Golden State say goodbye to Damian Jones, who reaped potential but didn’t manage to live up to it in a Warriors uniform.
Spellman has been transparent on the battle with his weight, but he’s managed to cut that down in his arrival to the Warriors and will remain focused to get that number even lower. Better yet, he has the opportunity to be the rare stretch five for the Warriors, something Golden State hasn’t seen in recent memory.
Spellman made 44 threes with the Hawks last season, all assisted. In the Warriors system of ball movement, where Steve Kerr practically begs the rotation players to let it fly, Omari Spellman could be the sleeper breakout player for Golden State.
