Stephen Curry’s age will not be a factor as he continues to lead the Golden State Warriors.
The 2019-20 NBA season is going to require maximum effort from Stephen Curry. He is now the oldest player on the Golden State Warriors but still holds the heaviest load. It is up to Curry to lead the Warriors through their latest troubles and his age shouldn’t be an issue.
At 31 years of age, Curry is the only member of the Warriors born before the 90s. Despite being the team’s most experienced player, Curry is far from being an aging veteran. The two-time MVP is still very much in the midst of his prime and has not begun a decline just yet.
Curry’s statistics are as strong as ever. Last season, Steph put up 27.3 points per game on 47.2 percent shooting from the floor. He did this as the second option to a four-time scoring champion in Kevin Durant.
This may have been a blessing in disguise for Curry. Rather than carrying the full weight of the offense, he had the luxury of playing alongside a superstar in Durant. This relieved some stress off of Curry and allowed him to coast more than he would have been able to otherwise.
Regardless, age is far from being a concern for Curry. His game leads us to believe he will be capable of playing for many more seasons. A high-IQ player with superb ball-handling and 3-point shooting, Curry will fit with almost any team moving forward.
He has never been an explosive athlete. Though his speed is certainly an important aspect of his game, Curry doesn’t rely on his athleticism to be effective. This means he will be able to play long after his athletic decline begins.
It’s rare for undersized guards to stay in the league and remain effective past 35 years of age. For Curry, this is a realistic goal. So long as he is still physically able to run up and down the court at a reasonable pace, his unbelievable accuracy from deep should keep him in the league for many years to come.
