Andre Drummond is on a horrible contract

The Golden State Warriors are restricted when it comes to who they can trade for. Although Drummond falls in that category, he’s on a contract that the Warriors may be want.

Drummond is going to make $27 million this season and then inevitably will accept his $28.7 million player option the following season. There is one caveat though. Drummond is up for a new contract at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Well, that’s the same offseason in which Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be up for a new contract. If the Dubs want enough cap space to land Giannis, they may opt to bring in Drummond.

However, it seems unlikely they’d take that risk given Russell’s future potential. He seems to be their stronghold for the future. Also, Russell is locked up for four seasons so he serves as a quality guard as long as he continues to develop.

The Warriors would only do this contract if they feel they could sign Giannis. Even then it’d be ideal to bring in Robert Covington for his team-friendly deal.
