The NBA preseason – where overreacting happens. The Golden State Warriors are no exception.

The time of year where any of the league’s thirty fanbases believe that they can go all the way, just because they clobbered the Chinese champions (this will be the only reference to China, don’t panic). Again, the Golden State Warriors are no exception with lofty expectations.

It can be perfectly easy for people to also switch off and dismiss anything that occurs in the early days of October as a glorified training session that means very little in the grand scheme of things.

Both can be true, but there are sometimes glimpses within a team’s preseason that can stoke interest. For the Golden State Warriors, Jordan Poole may just be stoking said interest.

For many, including myself, the decision to draft the Michigan guard in the first round of this year’s draft was unexpected.

Poole was not lurking on a lot of draft boards beforehand, but a couple of months is a long time in the NBA, and the early signs could suggest that he could have been a shrewd signing by GM Bob Myers.

A decent Summer League followed by an eye-catching preseason by the 20-year-old has certainly highlighted Poole’s talents. While there cannot be too much stated from playing a Lakers side on multiple occasions with varying rotations from both sides, Poole has shone through the grey of monotony.

The future is bright but Steve Kerr would unquestionably appreciate a decent contribution from opening night onwards. Can he expect that from Jordan Poole?
