The Golden State Warriors have begun the 2019-20 NBA season 0-2 but how is Stephen Curry doing?
Stephen Curry is tasked with carrying the Golden State Warriors to the mountain top. In the wake of massive free agency losses and injuries to key players, Curry’s job is becoming more and more difficult by the minute.
We all know that at his best, Curry is an all-time great talent. The two-time MVP has carried the Warriors to a five-year run for the record books and is more than capable of leading the team even in the aftermath of a disastrous summer.
Fans had high hopes for Curry and his new back court teammate, D’Angelo Russell. D-Lo is fresh off his first all-star season and expected to be a suitable partner for Curry. Thus far, nothing has been pretty for the Warriors. Back-to-back ugly losses to begin the season is adding more pressure to the Dubs than ever before.
Curry has partaken in the disappointment. In each game, Curry has under performed, averaging just 23 points per game. This is a far cry from the MVP aspirations Curry had before the season began.
It seems that Curry is struggling due to a lack of spacing on the floor. With less shot creators available, the court has shrunken. No Kevin Durant or Klay Thompson has had a profound impact on the Dubs potent offense.
This is putting Curry at a disadvantage and causing him to work harder for his shots. Curry is now receiving the brunt of defensive attention and being trapped at every corner.
Though many are using this two game sample size as proof that Curry is overrated, it’s time to slow down. We have not seen this Warriors team at full strength yet and there is slim chance that Curry fails to ramp up his production at some point this season.
Beginning the season 0-2 is concerning, but it isn’t cause for panic. Let’s give this team full of new faces a chance to adapt and grow before judging.
