Stephen Curry is the golden boy of the Golden State Warriors, but does this mean the franchise would never consider trading him?

Without Stephen Curry, the Golden State Warriors would never have become the dynasty they are. Before his emergence, the Dubs were one of the league’s laughingstocks. Now, they have seen more success in the last five years than any other team.

The Warriors’ success can be directly attributed to the two-time MVP. His run over the last five seasons has made him one of the greatest players to ever play the sport.

At his peak, Curry and the Dubs “broke basketball.” Their dominance was otherworldly, reaching five consecutive NBA Finals and winning three of them. Like all good things, the Warriors dynasty might be coming to an end.

An explosive 2019 NBA Finals that saw Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant fall with major injuries was the first sign of a collapse. In the summer, Durant made his official move to Brooklyn and it became clear that Thompson’s ACL injury could hold him on the sideline for the entire season.

Though the addition of D’Angelo Russell gave fans hope, an 0-2 start to the season has sucked any optimism away. If the Warriors run is truly over, would the franchise ever consider trading Curry?

It wouldn’t be a revolutionary idea. There is nothing unusual about a former championship-contending team trading away aging All-Star as they transition into a rebuild. A Curry trade package would bring in a massive return and benefit the Warriors in the long run.

At 31-years of age, Curry won’t be in his prime much longer. The window for success is shrinking and it may be time for the Dubs to move forward.

The Warriors aren’t exactly worried too much about loyalty. They already shipped away the former Finals MVP, Andre Iguodala. However, Curry feels like a different case. It would be a truly shady move to trade the franchises greatest player of all-time.

Of course, it would also be an overreaction to trade Curry. Even if the Warriors finish in the lottery this season, there is a reason to have hope next year. A healthy Thompson will change the entire look of this team. Furthermore, a successful 2020 free agency could be in store for Golden State.

Though I think anything is on the table for the Warriors this year, trading Curry is one thing that will never happen.
