The Golden State Warriors need to adjust their goals for the season.

Though the season is less than a month old, the Golden State Warriors may have to throw their 2019-20 NBA campaign in the trash.

The last few months have been incredibly unlucky for the Dubs. Kevin Durant‘s torn Achilles was quickly followed by Klay Thompson‘s torn ACL, which now proceeded a broken left hand for Stephen Curry.

Curry’s hand was broken in a fluke accident during the Warriors match against the Phoenix Suns. Curry is scheduled to be re-evaluated in three months after surgery according to Shams Charania.

Golden State is now left with a decimated roster. The only remaining stars are D’Angelo Russell and Draymond Green, a pairing that does not seem fit to contend in the Western Conference.

Outside of their two All-Stars, the Warriors have no reliable talents to fill in for the massive gaps left by Durant, Thompson and Curry. This puts the Dubs in a vulnerable position.

It would take an otherworldly string of performances from Russell and Green to keep the Warriors above water during this time. Even if this happened, the Warriors will still struggle to compete for a playoff spot.

As a result, it might be time for the Warriors to revaluate their goals for the year. A championship is out the window. The Dubs now have two choices, either blow it up or go all-in next season.

Let’s discuss the idea of blowing it up first. A horrid season here could land the Dubs a top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. By trading one of their main stars, the Warriors could load up on draft picks and rebuild for the future.

In contrast, the Warriors could use their potentially valuable pick in a deal to bring in another All-Star. They could even package D-Lo in a trade to double-down on current superstar talent.

Regardless, the Warriors will have to forget about competing this year. It is in the franchise’s best interests to begin looking forward and use this season simply as a gauge for how D-Lo fits with the Warriors in the future.
