Warriors: Who will step up in the face of all these injuries?
By Tony Pesta
The Golden State Warriors roster has been ravaged by injury.
It has been a series of unfortunate events for the Golden Stae Warriors. The basketball gods have struck down on the franchise, delivering devastating injuries one after another.
Kevin Durant‘s rupture Achilles likely cost the Dubs a championship last season while Klay Thompson‘s torn ACL only solidified their woes. Now, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are recovering from hand injuries.
Injured Warriors:
- Stephen Curry – Broken Hand (3 Months)
- Klay Thompson – Torn ACL (8 months)
- Draymond Green – Torn Hand Ligament (Day-to-day)
- D’Angelo Russell – Ankle Sprain (Day-to-day)
Each of the Warriors’ core members has been slammed with an injury. Though some more serious than others, the effect this has had on the team is unparalleled. Rarely has the NBA ever seen a situation like this.
On Saturday night, the Warriors rolled out a starting lineup of Ky Bowman, Jordan Poole, Glenn Robinson III, Eric Paschall and Willie Cauley-Stein. These five names say all you need to know about the Dubs current struggles.
The question everyone is now asking, who will step up? The Dubs will need someone to play above expectations or this season will be over before December even begins.
The Warriors must be kicking themselves for not converting on their chance at Kendrick Nunn. Nunn played on the Warriors G-League affiliate last season and is now averaging 22.4 points per game with the Miami Heat.
Golden State is likely going to ask Poole and Alec Burks to carry the scoring load. Poole is a young prospect but has shown the ability to shoot lights out from deep. Meanwhile, Burks is a versatile scorer in isolation and can rack up double-digit numbers when given the opportunity.
Overall, the Warriors are going to wind up tanking this season. The odds of them climbing out of this hole are slim. It’s time for the Dubs to focus on the summer and figure out how to get back to the mountain top next year.
