D’Angelo Russell represents the future of Golden State Warriors basketball.

The Golden State Warriors are placing their faith in D’Angelo Russell to become the future of the franchise.

Russell’s acquisition was one of desperation. With two-time Finals MVP, Kevin Durant, making his departure, the Warriors needed to act quickly in order to recover.

Their best option was a sign-and-trade to bring Russell to the roster. The 23-year old All-Star had a shaky start to his career but had since thrived under the Nets system.

Last season, Russell put up career-high numbers in points and assists. He was one of the best creators out of the pick-and-roll and helped carry Brooklyn to the postseason.

With the Warriors, Russell was expected to play alongside Stephen Curry. Acting as the new Klay Thompson, D-Lo could bring more than just shooting as his abilities as a playmaker are exceptional.

Unfortunately, Curry’s broken hand ended this dynamic duo before it even began. The Warriors are now looking at Russell to be the team’s offensive leader.

Thus far, he has risen to the challenge. In a loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Russell exploded for 52 points and 9 rebounds.  Russell attempted 37 field goals and drilled 7 3-pointers.

This was the first time in Russell’s career that he had attempted more than 35 shots in a game. A clear indication that D-Lo’s usage is about to skyrocket to heights it had never reached before.

In Golden State, Russell is preparing to carry the torch passed on from a two-time MVP in Curry. The expectations are high and the pressure is on.

dark. Next. Warriors: What a wonderful time for haters

As the season progresses, we will see if D-Lo is capable of living up to such hefty expectations. As of now, it seems the Warriors have found a future cornerstone to their franchise, at least until his contract is up in 2023.
