The Golden State Warriors should call it quits and shut down Stephen Curry for the remainder of the season.

Stephen Curry is the only hope the Golden State Warriors have of being title contenders. Without the two-time MVP, the team has a limited ceiling.

This is why so many are eagerly waiting for Curry to return from the hand injury that is set to hold him sidelined for at least three months. However, the Dubs may be better off letting Curry sit down for the remainder of the season.

The first 10 games of the 2019-20 NBA season have not been pretty for the Dubs. An ugly 2-8 record leaves the Warriors at the bottom of the standings for the first time in over a decade.

This is a direct result of losing Curry. There simply isn’t a way to replace the offensive production that the six-time All-NBA member used to provide.

Before the injury, Curry was showing signs of an MVP caliber season. He began the year in a slump but snapped for 26 points and 11 assists in the game directly before fracturing his hand.

The timetable for his return varies. Some reports alluded to Curry missing the entire season while Curry himself has said he expects to be back in Spring.

Regardless of if he is healthy or not, the Warriors may want to have Curry sit the rest of the year. There is no reason to risk the 31-year olds health in a season that was doomed from the start.

By sitting Curry, the Warriors can almost guarantee their spot in the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery. A bit of luck could leave the Dubs with a valuable pick that can be used to draft a future franchise cornerstone or act as a sweetener in a trade for a superstar.

The Warriors should be looking to go all-in on the 2020 offseason. In order to optimize their chances of winning next season, shutting Curry down is the only logical move.
