The Golden State Warriors want to win every game, but head coach Steve Kerr knows their just “not good enough” for that to be a reality right now.

After going 57-25 last season, the Golden State Warriors are hitting a hard reality that they just aren’t that good after losing to the Boston Celtics. They’re now 2-11 and are clearly the league’s worst team.

After the then 2-9 Knicks defeated the Mavericks a few nights ago, the Warriors with the Wizards were left as the league’s only two two-win team. They’ll be looking at a historic year-over-year drop, but it’s not because of effort.

With multiple young players vying for a spot in the rotation and several veterans looking to reclaim their NBA dreams, the Warriors are a team full of opportunity. It just so happens that that opportunity comes on what could be a historically bad team.

The talent is there; it’s just injured.

With the way this season has started and the injury to Curry, Kerr understands that the noise is coming. He knows that there are several calling for the team to potentially tank into a top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

“That’s part of coaching. Messaging and letting your team know where you are where you stand, what your goals are. The goal is to try to win every game. The reality is, we’re not good enough to do so right now,” Kerr told The Mercury News’ Wed Goldberg after a stinging loss to the Lakers.

The Warriors are pushing and trying their hardest each time they take the court, but D’Angelo Russell as the lone elite scoring threat and one of the worst defenses in the league, they just cannot keep up.

That’s led to a few ugly outings so far this season.

There’s no denying that this is a down year, and if they do make history for the widest two-year win percentage margin drop, they may make it back up during the 2020-2021 season.

With Curry, Thompson, Green, Russell, Paschall and a first-round pick all primed for next season, this roster may sky back up to the top of the West. They may make history again with the widest margin upward. That’s the type of content we’re looking forward to.

For now, this team just isn’t good enough to keep games close, and that’s ok.
