The Golden State Warriors were able to get a gritty win over the Memphis Grizzlies behind 29 points from shooting guard Alec Burks.

The banged-up Golden State Warriors went on the road to play the Ja Morant-led Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies entered the game 5-8 while the Warriors ranked dead last in the league with just two victories.

The Warriors were playing just one of their four All-Star. D’Angelo Russell was out, although he is expected back soon. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will both be out for the distant future. Golden State is learning to adapt without them.

In that process, Alec Burks, who was once a consistent scorer for the Utah Jazz, may continue to breakout. Burks posted a season-high 29 points against the Grizzlies. He was the go-to option for Golden State without their three offensive creators.

Draymond Green also got back on track with 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. The Warriors were able to get a huge 20 points from Glenn Robinson. Robinson started off the game 4-for-4 from the field. Eric Paschall and Marquese Chriss both also put in 17.

Beating the Grizzlies by 14, this was the first game of the season in which Golden State notched three digits on the scoreboard and their opponent did not. They managed to accomplish that nine times last season. This was easily one of Golden State’s more impressive outings.

Surprisingly, what they did well was on the defensive end. Having one of the league’s worst defensive ratings, Golden State held the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft to just 7-for-20 shooting.

Overall, they held Memphis to under 41% from the field. With several defensive-minded players on the roster, there’s no reason this defense shouldn’t be at the top of the league in efficiency. Their only downside in their length and that proved to be a nonfactor against Memphis.

The Dubs were able to get back on track after losing seven straight. However, they may not stay on track as they travel to Dallas and then Utah, two tough places where the Dubs will meet two of the West’s better teams.
