Anthony Edwards is putting himself on Golden State Warriors radar
By Tony Pesta
A string of strong performances from Georgia’s Anthony Edwards has put him on the Golden State Warriors draft radar.
For the first time in years, the Golden State Warriors are preparing to make a selection in the NBA Draft Lottery. A bit of good fortune could land the Dubs the number one overall pick in a loaded draft class.
The 2020 NBA Draft Class is shaping up to be filled with talented guards and big men. Although this reeling Warriors team is in desperate need of a forward, a prospect named Anthony Edwards may become too good to pass up.
Edwards is playing in his freshman year with Georgia and has been lighting it up. In his most recent game, Edwards scored 33 points in the second half to cap off his 37 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks performance.
His talents as a crafty scorer have been on full display. He is averaging a strong 20.0 points per game so far this season.
Plugging Edwards into the Warriors offense is a recipe for success. Under the correct guidance, Edwards can blossom into an elite scorer with big-time potential.
If the Warriors choose to draft Edwards, they will have an interesting dilemma on their hands. With two All-Star guards on the roster already in Stephen Curry and D’Angelo Russell, there may not be any space for Edwards.
The Dubs would have to make some tough decisions. One option is to trade Russell in exchange for a reliable forward or big man. The Warriors could also elect to bring Edwards off the bench and utilize him as a spark plug.
Whatever the Warriors decide to do, there is no doubt that Edwards has put himself on their radar. If he continues to perform at a high level, the Warriors may not be able to ignore his immense talent.
