The Golden State Warriors will return home tonight, but even a win won’t negate a discouraging five-game East Coast road trip.

There’s no denying the Golden State Warriors 2019-2020 season hasn’t gone as planned. They have just five wins in 24 games and will be officially eliminated from playoff contention with the next few months.

That said, there are many reasons to stay tuned into this roster, and one is for the development of their young stars. However, after the team’s most challenging five-game road trip, the team took a step backward.

They went to the East Coast, taking on Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte and then Chicago.

Heading into their final matchup of the road trip, Golden State had lost the previous four and would’ve potentially lost all five had it not been for a 20-point performance from Glenn Robinson III.

Of the eight players that saw time in all five games, only three average double figures. Robinson, rookie Eric Paschall and veteran Alec Burks have all transcended as the leaders for this team’s depleted offense.

Even at their worst, the Warriors still need to find a way to defeat a Nikola Vucevic-less Magic and John Collins-less Hawks. Without Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, the Warriors really haven’t had much flow, and it’s been difficult to watch.

Neither will be back in time to make a difference regarding this team’s playoff chances. However, this season has been a training ground for next year when this team is fully healthy and capable of that league-wide dominance.

The Warriors can re-write their wrong though. They have upcoming games at home against Memphis and New York. These are two very winnable games, and the Warriors should be in all eight quarters of these games.

This season has been difficult, and it will continue to disappoint. However, Warrior fans must remember that this is a training ground and that this team will be back atop the league next season.
