Golden State Warriors: Draymond Green has been dissapointing
By Tony Pesta
The Golden State Warriors expected more from their vocal leader Draymond Green.
Draymond Green has been one of the league’s best enforcers over the years for the Golden State Warriors.
His rise to stardom as a gritty defender with elite playmaking ability made Green a valuable asset. Since 2015, Green has been named to three All-Star games, two All-NBA teams and won the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year Awards.
Green has set high expectations for himself. This is why the 2019-20 season has been such a major disappointment for Green.
While the rest of his star teammates have fallen with major injuries, Green stands alone as the only one of the Warriors’ core players to appear in more than half of their games this year.
With Green as the team’s leader, the Dubs have fallen to a league-worst 5-21 record. He has been absent in nearly every way, averaging just 9.1 points on 26.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line.
He is far from the leader the Dubs once knew. Though the lack of a supporting cast has to be directly impacting Green’s numbers, there is no excuse for how he has allowed this team to be embarrassed on a nightly basis.
The fire that Draymond used to bring to each game is gone. The Warriors are no longer feared and the league’s best enforcer has become a mockery. This is not a trend that the Dubs can afford to keep up.
The Warriors will be in a position to compete for a title next season, but they will need to see improvement from Green. His current performances are simply not enough to get the job done.
Green will need to spend the rest of this season redeeming himself and bringing respect back to the Warriors’ name. He can no longer allow opposing teams to dominate this young Dubs squad.
