For the first time in a long time, the Golden State Warriors have their eyes on the trade market.

Fate has forced the Golden State Warriors into a tough position. This team has a solid core of D’Angelo Russell, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, but their supporting cast is lacking big time.

The four stars on this roster are enough to help the Warriors be title contenders when everyone is healthy. We already know what Curry, Green and Thompson are capable of. Adding a 23-year-old star in Russell should only make things better.

However, with this current collection of role players, the Dubs won’t be going very far anytime soon. Though young players such as Eric Paschall, Ky Bowman and Damion Lee have looked good, the rest of the team is struggling.

Alec Burks, in particular, seems like he will not be a longterm member of the Warriors. The eight-year veteran is known for his instant offense and 3-point shooting is not the best fit for this team.

Burks is averaging 15.5 points and is one of the Warriors’ best scorers. He is a skilled shot creator and a solid athlete. Still, there are questions as to how effective he will be in a more limited role once Curry and Thompson return to the lineup.

As a result, the Warriors are considering trading Burks if the right deal emerges. According to Monte Poole of NBC, the Dubs are open to trading Burks and other veterans.

This is likely the best move for the Dubs moving forward. This team has a fighting chance at a championship next season but they shouldn’t go all in and sacrifice their future with aging players like Burks on their roster.

Trading Burks and other veterans for more young assets appears to be the way to go. This will put the Warriors in position to be competitive for a very long time.
