The Golden State Warriors should be looking to build for the future of the franchise.

After a tragic start to the 2019-20 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors need to plan for the future.

Reality hit the Warriors like a ton of bricks. Following the departure of Kevin Durant, massive injuries showed how quickly a dynasty can come burning down to ashes. The Warriors now hold the worst record in the league only a few months after reaching their fifth consecutive NBA Finals.

This means the Dubs need to prepare for the future more than ever. With a promising young star already on the roster in D’Angelo Russell, finding a suitable partner for him is all the team needs to do.

The Warriors don’t have to look much farther than Karl-Anthony Towns. The All-NBA big man not only has a great friendship with Russell but would be a magnificent fit alongside the talented playmaker.

Towns is an all-around beast. He is posting nearly 50/40/90 shooting splits this year as a big man and is averaging 26.5 points and 11.7 rebounds. He can quite literally do it all and would be the Warriors best rim protector as well.

Meanwhile, Russell is in the midst of another career-year. He is scoring 23.2 points per game and has shown some ability to take over in the clutch. The inside-out presence of Towns and Russell would create a fun dynamic for the Dubs.

It is uncertain when Towns will become available on the trading block but there is reason to believe it will be soon. The Minnesota Timberwolves have failed to surround him with talent and frustration must be building.

The Warriors certainly have enough assets to trade for Towns. A combination of Draymond Green and their 2020 NBA Draft pick should be all it takes to haul in this generational talent.

Both Russell and Towns are under 25 years of age and have plenty of time to develop into even better players. Acquiring both of them would put the Warriors in position to compete for the next decade.
