The Golden State Warriors have waived forward Marquese Chriss.

It has been a tough season for the Golden State Warriors, one of just two teams still without double-digit wins. They’ve struggled due to injuries to superstars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, two of their max contract-value players.

In the meantime, they asked numerous other players to step up into larger roles, potentially the most engaging of their careers. Those players included Marquese Chriss, Damion Lee, Ky Bowman, Alec Burks, Glenn Robinson III, and any other capable body.

Well, a few of those players did step up, and a few did not.

That’s why the Warriors are waiving Marquese Chriss, who they signed day prior to the regular season’s commencement. Chriss played just 37 games with the Golden State Warriors, averaging just over seven points per game.

After the team’s preseason, Warriors including Draymond Green stuck their neck out to management about keeping Chriss, forcing the team to waive Alfonzo McKinnie.

However, since, Chriss’ play hasn’t been overly impressive, but it’s more about the Warriors’ hard cap situation than Chriss’ incompetence.

The Warriors’ hard cap situation has already forced them to limit their 15-man roster. This has therefore forced their hand when dealing with Damion Lee, one of Golden State’s two players on a two-way contract.

The Warriors needed Lee past his total days with the team. They freed space for them, and Chriss was the one that was collateral for Lee’s addition.

Lee, the team’s top scorer in their marquee win against the Rockets on Christmas Day, has had a terrific season. However, his 45 days with the team was almost up, and he needed a new contract to continue with the Golden State Warriors.

He has averaged 12.3 points in 24 games this season. Stephen Curry’s brother-in-law has truly outperformed expectations as had been a solid contributor offensively while marginally improving defensively as well.

Next. 5 reasonable trades for Glenn Robinson III. dark

Sadly, this was a necessary move for Golden State. Chriss will be missed, but this will finally open up a more consistent role for Damion Lee.
