Golden State Warriors: Anthony Edwards is perfect talent and fit
There’s no denying the Golden State Warriors season has been a struggle, and they’ll thankfully get to look forward to a top-five draft pick in 2020.
The Golden State Warriors will have one of the top picks in the 2020 NBA Draft, and Anthony Edwards is both the perfect fit and high-level talent they should ideally target.
He’ll likely declare for the draft after his freshman year at the University of Georgia. Edwards is slated to be a top-five pick with players like LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman also potentially among the first ones off the board.
Edwards is easily a top athlete in the 2020 draft. His insane vertical combined with his quickness and pure strength overpowers those smaller than him at the collegiate level. Edwards currently stands 6-foot-5.
At the University of Georgia, Edwards is averaging 19.1 points per game and had led the Bulldogs to an 11-6 start.
Unfortunately, he’s not producing those numbers overly efficiently, shooting under 42% from the field. To be fair, being the primary scoring option on a low-octane offense does make him susceptible to a low percentage.
On that note, Edwards is also proving to be a competent three-point shooter, averaging 2.3 per game. If that can translate to the next level, watch out NBA.
He has all the making of a Vince Carter-like prospect. He’s every ounce the athlete and can shoot from the perimeter. And, he’ll be the best shooting guard/small forward in the upcoming NBA draft.
That’s a position the Warriors need as Wiseman and Ball play the five and one respectively. There aren’t many players out there that would be the perfect fit for Golden State.
Sliding in at the three and allowing Thompson back to the two would make Edwards the perfect fit. Then again, that’d mean D’Angelo Russell would be coming off the bench and who knows how that’d work for the Warriors.
Either way, the talent and fit are both there, making Anthony Edwards the quintessential first-round pick for Golden State.
