It is not the time for the Golden State Warriors to become desperate.

The Golden State Warriors have every reason to hold on to their cards and play it safe at the 2020 NBA trade deadline.

Every year, teams across the league scramble to make last-second deals at the deadline. Rumors run wild as fringe playoff squads look to either buy or sell big time while they still can.

For the Warriors, they are not in a position to buy or sell right now. Sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference, the Dubs are in a situation that few teams in NBA history have ever been in before.

The Dubs are on pace to secure the best odds to win the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery. A top pick can be used to jumpstart rebuilding franchises. However, the Dubs are far from rebuilding.

Still on the roster is the two-time MVP, Stephen Curry. At 31 years of age, Curry has plenty of gas left in the tank to keep the Dubs competitive for the next few seasons. Meanwhile, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are both ready to compete at a high level once again.

Even without the No.1 pick, the Warriors will be championship contenders next season. This means the Dubs should keep their options open moving forward past the trade deadline as this pick can be very valuable in potential trades.

The Warriors have been playing with the idea of trading D’Angelo Russell since they acquired him. The 23-year old star is sure to bring in a sizeable return and will be a hot target if he ever hits the trading block.

However, the Dubs should refrain from making D-Lo available just yet. Not only do the Warriors want to see how D-Lo meshes with the rest of the core once healthy, but they also want to leave the option to package him with their upcoming draft pick.

The Dubs will maximize their return on trades if they wait for the outcome of the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery. Because of this, they should play it safe at the deadline and hold onto their star core.
