Stephen Curry has transcended the game of basketball with the Golden State Warriors and his consistency from long range has now changed the NBA’s 3-Point Contest.

The league has never seen a better shooter than Stephen Curry. Since the 2015-16 NBA season, Curry has drilled an unbelievable total of 1,587 shots from beyond the arc for the Golden State Warriors.

Many of these shots, came from much farther out than the 23 feet required to shoot a 3-pointer. Rather, Curry has become consistent from 25+ feet. The two-time MVP is notorious for pulling up from near the logo in what is now regarded as “Curry range.”

His impact on the rest of the game is clear. Players such as Damian Lillard and Trae Young have shown no fear in recent years to shoot the ball from way behind the line. Before Curry, this shot would have been heavily frowned upon.

Now, the NBA is implementing this ridiculously deep shot into their All-Star Weekend. The annual 3-Point Contest will now feature a pair of shots from 6 feet behind the 3-point line and be worth three points apiece.

According to ESPN, there have already been nearly 300 shots made from 30 feet this year. This is more than last year’s total and sets an NBA record with roughly half the season remaining.

Although Curry hasn’t been playing this season and will not compete in the contest, there is no doubt he had a direct impact on this change to the game. Last year, Curry drilled 234 total 3-pointers from 25+ feet. This rivaled his career-high of 251 in the 2015-16 season when he broke the NBA’s single-season record for 3-pointers with 403 in one season.

dark. Next. Warriors need to be patient with D'Angelo Russell

We won’t see Curry compete but we will receive a fun contest featuring some of the game’s best sharpshooters. Damian Lillard, Buddy Hield, Davis Bertans, Devonte’ Graham, Duncan Robinson, Trae Young, Zach Lavine and Joe Harris will all compete in this year’s contest.
