The Warriors weren’t screwed in their trade with Minny

The media does not like Andrew Wiggins. They thought the Warriors were being screwed over in this trade.

While paying him over $30 million in a few seasons will be tough to see, Wiggins has stepped his game up this season, averaging over 22 points per game. Shooting 44% from the field, Wiggins is also making a career-high 2.2 threes per game.

Secondly, Wiggins is a better fit for the Warriors than Russell.

At 6-foot-7, Wiggins is a traditional small forward, allowing Thompson to then return to the shooting guard position. It was assumed that Thompson would be the three with Russell at the two had the team’s roster stayed the same.

Both Wiggins and Russell are on contracts that aren’t exactly team-friendly. For Golden State, that means that securing the return while the interest is high in the young guard is what needed to be done.
