The Golden State Warriors traded D’Angelo Russell, and after shutting down rumors, it seems management went ahead and gave up on the 23-year-old.

The 2020 NBA trade deadline was far more engaging than many had originally thought it would be. The most notable trade on February 6 was between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Golden State Warriors sent D’Angelo Russell to the Wolves. In return, they secured a top-three protected 2021 first-round pick and a 2021 second-round pick to go with small forward Andrew Wiggins.

To say the least, there were mixed feelings about this deal. It was the deadline’s blockbuster, and it will have ramifications for quite some time.

At the end of the day, it was obvious the Warriors didn’t feel Russell was the fit for their long-term future, although denying initial reports back this past offseason when they first signed him to that four-year max contract.

They brought on Wiggins’ contract, one that many think is just as player-friendly, potentially hurting the Warriors chances to enhance their roster this offseason.

That said, Russell’s time in Golden State was short, and they may have been able to get more out of him in the long run. Now, let’s dive into three reasons why the Warriors gave up on the 23-year-old too soon.
