Point guard Ky Bowman, with D’Angelo Russell off the Golden State Warriors’ roster, will have the chance to truly show his worth.
The Golden State Warriors dealt almost half their team the last few days leading up to the 2020 NBA trade deadline. Well, that type of send-off is going to give a few players significantly more minutes, and Ky Bowman is one of them.
Bowman was originally handed one of the Warriors’ two two-way contracts. Damion Lee had the other. Both were called up for the bulk of their allotted time as two-way players are only allowed so many days with the NBA team they signed with.
Well, both were about to zoom right through that so the team signed them through at least the rest of the season.
Now, with Glenn Robinson III, D’Angelo Russell, Jacob Evans III and Alec Burks elsewhere, Bowman will have a huge opportunity to step up and leave his mark on the season.
That said, even with Curry’s return on the horizon, Bowman will be given high-volume minutes as Curry, with the team out of playoff contention, will likely be on a minutes restriction as well.
Overall, Bowman has played well this season. While he’s currently not playing his best ball, Bowman has shown a mature, patient style of play, one which head coach Steve Kerr has fallen in love with.
Bowman has averaged 7.0 points per game on 40% from the field.
While those aren’t overly impressive, when you look at his per 36 minutes, Bowman’s production becomes more telling of his actual performances. That said, per 36, he’s averaging 11.5 points to go with over four rebounds and assists.
At 6-foot-1, Bowman has the attributes it takes to succeed at the highest level, and it’ll finally be time for him to show them off on a consistent basis.
