Stephen Curry’s reported return to the Golden State Warriors next week is now being brought into question by head coach, Steve Kerr.

Earlier this week, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Stephen Curry would be making his triumphant return to the Golden State Warriors on March 1. According to Dubs head coach Steve Kerr, this was news to him.

Kerr expressed his confusion over the reports, stating that Curry hasn’t done enough to prove he is ready to play yet. Kerr notes that Curry has only scrimmaged with full contact twice and believes he will need more before being officially cleared.

“If it’s Sunday, great. If it’s not, that’s fine too,” Kerr said. It’s clear that the Warriors don’t want to rush Curry back from his injury too soon.

However, many fans seem confused as to how a fractured hand has held the two-time MVP sidelined for four entire months. An injury that normally only takes about three weeks to heal has been bothering Curry since October 30.

According to Curry, the reason for his prolonged absence is due to nerve damage in his left hand. The fracture did more damage than it appeared and still doesn’t feel normal. Curry claims he is working on adjusting to a “new normal” feeling in his hand.

Though Kerr’s comments have brought his potential return into question, it still feels likely that Curry will hit the court on Sunday. After all, Curry himself said that March 1 has always been his targeted return date.

This is likely just a case of Kerr being overly cautious and not wanting to promise anything regarding Curry’s health. Barring any major setbacks within the next few days, we should expect to see the league’s best point guard back in action as the Warriors take on the Washington Wizards Sunday night.
