Golden State Warriors: Jordan Poole is finally showing promise
The Golden State Warriors drafted Jordan Poole with their 2019 first-round pick, and he’s finally to show them why they put their trust in him.
There’s no denying this season has been tough for both the Golden State Warriors and Jordan Poole. The team’s first-round pick was supposed to come in and play a backup role to Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry.
That was the hope in a perfect world.
Given Thompson’s injury in the NBA Finals and Curry’s injury in the team’s fourth game of the season, Poole was thrown to the wolves and told to produce. To start the season, he didn’t, and fans were ready to give up on him.
He was sent to the G-League and was later recalled.
That said, after the team dealt much of their offensive production at the trade deadline, Poole was given another chance at heavy minutes. In those minutes, he’s thrived.
Over his last eight games, three of which included losses of 30 or more points, Poole has notched double figures in each outing. What’s even more impressive is that in three of those performances he shot over 50% from deep and was over 40% in five of them.
He’s been scoring efficiently, and that’s exactly what the Warriors have been wanting Poole to do. Likely to see a good bit of minutes over the team’s last 20-plus games, Poole should be destined to keep this success up.
With Alec Burks, Glenn Robinson III and D’Angelo Russell elsewhere, Poole has averaged over 30 minutes per game. He’s been used by Steve Kerr as a key part of the team’s post-deadline offense, and it’s been paying off.
Poole is still shooting just 25.5% from deep over that eight-game span, so if there is one thing to nitpick his game about, it’s that. However, moving forward, expect him to continue to improve.
