The Golden State Warriors need to have their eye on next season and should use the rest of the 2019-2020 season an audition for next year’s roster.
There’s no denying this season has been tough for the Golden State Warriors. They’ve been the only team with under 15 wins for quite a while, and even the return of Stephen Curry can’t save their season.
That said, the one silver lining is that they have officially retained their 2020 first-round pick, allowing them something to put their focus towards. That will likely go towards Anthony Edwards or James Wiseman.
For management, they need to be focusing on using the rest of this season as a training ground towards next season, when this team should ultimately be back in contention. Fully healthy, the Warriors are a top-three team in the West, and they’ll return to that next season.
With Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry at full strength, who will be their supporting cast? We can lock in Draymond Green as well, but who will fill out the team’s highly competitive roster in the coming season?
Jordan Poole, Ky Bowman, Damion Lee, Marquese Chriss, Dragan Bender, and several others that the Warriors have added after dealing almost half their roster at the deadline could show their potential and find themselves on the roster next season.
At the same time, those five-plus players could all struggle and find themselves on a new team. What will be the deciding factor? Well, just how they show improvement, like Jordan Poole has, will be a huge point of interest for Steve Kerr and his staff.
The Warriors have exactly 20 games left on the schedule. With ample opportunity for these players to thrive, Golden State will be focusing on which will be helpful for a potential title run next season.
These last 20 games will serve as an audition for the team’s bright future.
