The 2020 NBA Draft Lottery will be pivotal for the Golden State Warriors who still stand in an ideal position to win the top pick.

With only 20 games left in the season, the Golden State Warriors stand as the worst team in the entire league. Fortunately, their ugly season will be rewarded with the best odds to win the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery.

Over the years, the NBA has adjusted it’s draft lottery multiple times to stop teams from tanking. Their newest change occurred last season when they decided to flatten out the odds and discourage teams from losing altogether.

Previously, the franchise that finished with the fewest wins would be granted the highest odds to win the No. 1 pick. The benefit of being the worst team was significant as they were given a 25 percent chance of winning the lottery. This is nearly six percent higher than the second-worst team.

Now, the bottom three teams are all given just a 14 percent chance to be first in the draft order. Only five squads have a higher than 10 percent odds of winning the lottery.

As a result, the cost of winning games is no longer a big factor for teams looking to build through the draft. The difference between being the worst team in the league and a borderline playoff contender is thin when looking at the odds.

As of now, the Warriors are four games behind the next-worst team. They are over six games away from being out of the bottom three and have an insurmountable amount of games to push for the playoffs.
